The Broadway revival of August Wilson's Fences that SHN President Carole Shorenstein Hays is planning to produce, is now on track for a Broadway production in Spring of 2010. It was announced today that Denzel Washington will star in the show. This is a reunion for Ms. Shorenstein Hays and Mr. Washington, since his last appearance on Broadway was April 2005 in Julius Caeser, which was also produced by Ms. Shorenstein Hays.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON DEBUTS ON BROADWAY

A revival of Arthur Miller's A View From the Bridge will begin performances at Broadway's Cort Theatre on December 28 starring Scarlett Johansson in her Broadway debut opposite Tony Award-winner Liev Schreiber. Considered one of Arthur Miller's most passionate plays, Mr. Schreiber will play Eddie Carbone, a Brooklyn longshoreman obsessed with his teenage niece Catherine, played by Ms. Johansson. This production will be directed by Gregory Mosher and officially opens on January 24 for a limited engagement of fourteen weeks. Additional casting will soon be announced.


HE'S BACK AND HEADED TO CONEY ISLAND

Andrew Lloyd Webber has announced premiere dates for Love Never Dies, the long-awaited sequel to The Phantom of the Opera, starring Ramin Karimloo in the title role and Sierra Boggess (Little Mermaid) as Christine. The new musical is a collaboration between Lloyd Webber, lyricist Glenn Slater (Sister Act, The Little Mermaid) and playwright Ben Elton, who wrote the book. Tony winner Jack O'Brien (Hairspray, The Full Monty, The Coast of Utopia) is set to direct with preview performances beginning February 20, 2010, at London's Adelphi Theatre and a March 9 official opening. The Broadway debut will follow on November 11, 2010 (theatre not yet announced). A recording of the new score was completed in September and will be released on March 10, 2010, the day after the world premiere in London. For more info on Love Never Dies, click here.


A NEW MUSICAL ON SONDHEIM BY SONDHEIM

Sondheim on Sondheim, a new Broadway musical starring Barbara Cook, Vanessa Williams, Michael Arden and Leslie Kritzer, will premiere at Broadway's Studio 54 on March 12, 2010, with the official opening set for April 22. Produced by The Roundabout Theatre Company, this original musical was conceived and will be directed by Tony Award-winning playwright/director James Lapine and features Sondheim's music, punctuated by interview footage of the songwriter. The limited engagement plays through June 13, 2010.


PRISCILLA IS CRUISING TO BROADWAY

Priscilla Queen of the Desert is heading to Broadway. A stage musical version of "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," the 1994 Academy Award-winning movie, has set its Broadway opening for March 6, 2011. The show received rave reviews and is currently playing to enthusiastic audiences at the Palace Theatre in London.
